The Manu National Park, designated World Heritage by UNESCO, is at the heart of the Manu Biosphere Reserve and is one of the national parks with the greatest biodiversity in the world. Together with the Alto Purús National Park, it is also one of the biggest protected areas in the world. It has a great number of watershed basins inside its limits, and hosts indigenous populations –some of them living in voluntary isolation from the civilized world.
However, besides conservationists, scientists, nature photographers, bird watchers and a small number of tourists, the Manu National Park is not well known outside Peru. Prepared with the expert collaboration of the Frankfurt Zoological Society –our editorial associate– this book shows the beauty of Manu National Park with magnificent pictures taken by some of the best Peruvian and foreign photographers. It also emphasizes its value, describes the current projects under development, and presents some of the hidden heroes of conservationism.
